Client: Widemarsh Body Works
Location: Hereford, Herefordshire
Sector: Automotive / Accident Repair
Website: https://widemarshbodyworks.co.uk/

The Challenge

Widemarsh Body Works has been repairing vehicles in Hereford for more than 20 years.

Based on Widemarsh Street, the business provides insurance-approved accident repair services and has built its reputation around helping local motorists get their vehicles back on the road.

But when its previous website developer took the website offline, the business was left without a functioning online presence.

For a local accident repair specialist, that presents a particular problem.

Most people don't spend time researching bodyshops until something has happened to their car.

They might have been involved in a collision, discovered damage in a car park or noticed a dent or scratch that needs professional attention.

When they search, they are often using a mobile phone and want answers quickly.

They need to know:

  • Can this business repair my vehicle?
  • Is it based near me?
  • Can I speak to someone now?
  • How do I request a quote?

Without a website, Widemarsh Body Works had lost an important route for customers to discover its services and make contact.

The brief was straightforward:

Get the business back online, give it a modern website and make the mobile experience feel as convenient as an app.

Our Approach

We approached the project as both a website recovery and a complete digital rebuild.

The immediate priority was to restore the business's online presence.

But simply recreating the previous website would have missed an opportunity.

Instead, we designed a new experience around the way people actually find and contact accident repair businesses.

That meant prioritising:

  • Mobile-first navigation
  • One-tap calling
  • Clear service information
  • Simple quote enquiries
  • Local search visibility
  • Fast-loading pages
  • Reliable hosting
  • Straightforward ongoing maintenance

The result is a modern website that combines distinctive automotive-inspired design with the practical functionality customers need.

Starting Again Without a Website Handover

One of the biggest challenges was that there was no usable handover from the previous developer.

We had no access to the old website's files, administration area or original copy.

Rather than allowing that to delay the project, we reconstructed the available information using public web archives.

This involved recovering and checking the business information needed to rebuild its online presence, including:

  • Services previously advertised
  • Contact numbers
  • Areas served
  • Business background
  • Existing website structure

We then rewrote and reorganised that information for the new website.

This was more than a copy-and-paste exercise.

The original content needed to be transformed into clear, modern pages that reflected the services customers were looking for.

We also identified previously indexed URLs so the replacement website could preserve useful paths from the old site.

A Mobile-First Website Built Around Urgent Enquiries

For an accident repair business, the mobile experience is particularly important.

A potential customer might be standing next to a damaged vehicle when they find the website.

They are unlikely to want complicated navigation or lengthy forms.

They want to speak to someone.

We therefore designed the mobile interface to behave more like a native phone application.

One-Tap Calling

A large, prominent call button sits at the centre of the mobile navigation.

This makes the workshop accessible from every page without requiring visitors to search for a phone number.

Bottom Navigation

A thumb-friendly navigation bar provides direct access to:

  • Home
  • Services
  • About
  • Contact

This keeps the most important destinations within easy reach on smaller screens.

Persistent Header

A frosted-glass header remains visible as visitors move through the website, maintaining a clear sense of navigation.

Installable Website

Visitors can add the website to their phone's home screen, complete with its own app icon.

The objective was to provide the convenience of an app without requiring customers to download one from an app store.

An Automotive-Inspired Design

Widemarsh Body Works specialises in repairing and restoring vehicle bodywork.

We wanted the design to reflect that attention to finish and detail.

The visual identity uses a deep graphite colour palette with a candy-red accent.

Subtle interactive effects draw inspiration from automotive paintwork.

Selected headline text features a slow metallic shimmer, similar to light moving across a freshly finished panel.

Buttons catch a passing glint, while cards respond with subtle highlights as visitors interact with them.

These details give the website a distinctive, premium character without making it difficult to use.

Importantly, visitors who have enabled reduced-motion preferences on their devices are not forced to experience decorative animation.

The effects are disabled in response to those accessibility settings.

The result is a design that feels appropriate to the automotive sector while remaining practical and accessible.

Clear Calls to Action on Every Page

The website was designed around two primary customer actions:

Call the workshop.

Request a free quote.

These actions remain consistent throughout the site.

Phone numbers are clickable, allowing mobile visitors to call directly.

The workshop address opens in mapping applications, making it easy for customers to find the business.

The quote form is also designed to be completed on a phone, including in situations where someone may be making an enquiry from the roadside.

We also considered what happens if something goes wrong.

If email delivery fails, the form provides the workshop's telephone number so the customer still has a clear way to get in touch.

That fallback helps avoid turning a temporary technical issue into a lost enquiry.

Spam protection is handled without forcing genuine customers through unnecessary puzzles or challenges.

Fast Website Development with Next.js

We built the new website using Next.js and modern CSS.

The pages are pre-rendered, allowing content to be delivered efficiently without relying on unnecessary client-side processing.

The technical approach includes:

  • Responsive layouts across screen sizes
  • Pre-rendered pages
  • Modern CSS styling
  • Scroll-triggered animations without additional JavaScript
  • Reduced-motion support
  • Touch-friendly navigation
  • Optimised mobile interactions

The aim was to combine a visually distinctive experience with a lightweight technical foundation.

This reflects our wider approach to solutions architecture: selecting the technology that best supports the requirements of the business.

For Widemarsh Body Works, that meant a fast, maintainable website rather than an unnecessarily complicated platform.

Local SEO from Day One

Restoring the website was only part of the challenge.

The new site also needed to provide search engines with clear information about the business, its services and its location.

We built local SEO considerations into the website structure from the beginning.

Service-Focused Content

Page titles and descriptions were written around relevant searches, including:

  • Accident repairs in Hereford
  • Car body repairs
  • Vehicle respraying
  • Dents and scratches
  • Local bodyshop services

This gives the website a clearer connection to the services prospective customers are searching for.

Business Structured Data

We implemented structured data describing Widemarsh Body Works as an automotive body repair business.

This includes relevant business information such as its address, contact numbers and services.

Structured data helps search engines interpret that information consistently.

Areas Served

The website includes information about the locations the workshop serves, including:

  • Hereford
  • Ledbury
  • Ross-on-Wye
  • Kings Acre
  • Surrounding Herefordshire areas

This provides useful geographical context for both visitors and search engines.

Technical Search Foundations

We also implemented:

  • An automatically generated XML sitemap
  • Search engine configuration
  • Descriptive page metadata
  • Crawlable service information
  • Redirects from legacy website URLs

These measures provide a stronger technical foundation for ongoing SEO and local search visibility.

They do not guarantee particular rankings, but they help search engines discover and understand the replacement website.

Protecting Existing Search Traffic During the Rebuild

When a website disappears, previously indexed pages can continue appearing in search results.

If those addresses are not handled correctly, potential customers may encounter errors instead of reaching the business.

As part of the recovery process, we mapped the old website URLs that Google had indexed.

We then implemented permanent redirects to the closest relevant pages on the new website.

This helps preserve continuity for visitors following old links and allows search engines to understand where the content has moved.

The objective was not just to launch a replacement website, but to avoid unnecessarily discarding the search visibility the business had already established.

Straightforward Hosting and Maintenance

The website is hosted on DigitalOcean infrastructure in its London region.

HTTPS is configured automatically, and the site is connected to GitHub for deployment.

When an approved change is pushed to the codebase, the deployment workflow publishes the updated website.

We also simplified how routine business information is maintained.

Text, contact numbers, services and areas served are managed through a central data file.

This makes updates quicker and reduces the risk of inconsistent information appearing across multiple pages.

For a local business that needs its website to work reliably without constant attention, this is an important practical benefit.

Results & Impact

The project successfully restored Widemarsh Body Works' online presence and replaced the unavailable website with a complete modern platform.

20+ Years of Experience Represented Online

The new website gives the established Hereford business a digital presence that better reflects its history and services.

Mobile-First Customer Experience

App-style navigation and a prominent call button make it easier for customers to contact the workshop directly from their phones.

Recovered Business Content

Service information, contact details and business history were reconstructed from available public archives and adapted for the new site.

Search Continuity

Previously indexed URLs were mapped and redirected to relevant replacement pages.

Modern Hosting and Deployment

DigitalOcean hosting and GitHub-based deployment provide a straightforward foundation for future updates.

Clearer Enquiry Journeys

Every page guides visitors towards calling the workshop or requesting a quote.

The website is now live at widemarshbodyworks.co.uk.

Longer-term improvements in search visibility, traffic and enquiries can be measured as performance data becomes available.

What This Demonstrates

The Widemarsh Body Works project demonstrates The DM Lab's ability to combine:

  • Website Recovery
  • Website Design
  • Mobile-First UX
  • Next.js Development
  • Technical SEO
  • Local SEO
  • Content Reconstruction
  • Website Migration
  • Cloud Hosting
  • Conversion-Focused Design

to solve a real business problem.

It also demonstrates that losing access to an old website does not have to mean starting without any useful information.

With the right recovery process, a business can rebuild its online presence while improving the experience for customers.

Final Thought

Widemarsh Body Works had spent more than 20 years building a reputation for vehicle repairs in Hereford.

When its website disappeared, the business lost an important way for customers to find it at the moment they needed help.

We rebuilt that presence from the ground up.

By recovering the available content, designing around mobile users and putting clear contact options at the centre of the experience, we created a website that is more than a replacement for what was lost.

It is a stronger platform for the business going forward.

A modern website should make it easier for customers to find you, trust you and contact you — particularly when they need your services urgently.

That is what we set out to deliver for Widemarsh Body Works.
