Case Study
Building a Distinctive, High-Performance Digital Platform for a Precision Engineering Business
Services
Website
numachine.co.uk ↗The Challenge
Numachine is a specialist subcontract CNC machining business operating from Hereford and Walsall, supporting customers across sectors including aerospace, automotive, medical, oil and gas.
Like many precision engineering companies, Numachine operates in a market where suppliers are often presented as interchangeable.
Competitors tend to lead with similar service lists, similar machinery and similar claims around quality, accuracy and reliability.
However, Numachine’s real commercial advantage is more distinctive.
The business focuses on value engineering: finding smarter ways to manufacture components through better tooling, programming, fixturing, processes and machine selection.
The challenge was to translate that philosophy into a digital platform that could:
- communicate Numachine’s difference clearly
- avoid the visual conventions of typical engineering websites
- improve visibility for high-intent CNC machining searches
- generate qualified requests for quotation
- support future content and campaign growth
- perform well across traditional and AI-driven search
The objective was not simply to build a new website.
It was to create a brand-led lead generation platform that sells Numachine in the same way the business sells itself: cheaper through smarter engineering, not compromised quality.
Our Approach
We approached the project as a combination of brand positioning, digital platform architecture, search strategy and lead generation.
Rather than beginning with a standard list of CNC services, we first focused on how Numachine creates value for its customers.
That positioning was then translated across:
- messaging
- visual identity
- website structure
- content architecture
- user journeys
- SEO and Answer Engine Optimisation
- CRM-integrated lead capture
The result is a distinctive digital platform designed to appeal directly to engineers, buyers and procurement teams.

Positioning the Business Around How It Wins
The project began by reframing Numachine’s proposition.
Rather than presenting the business as another subcontract machinist, the website communicates how Numachine reduces cost and improves outcomes through smarter decisions.
The narrative was structured around:
- smarter engineering
- smarter tooling
- smarter programming
- smarter fixturing
- smarter machine selection
This positioning gives buyers a clear reason to choose Numachine beyond price, capacity or machinery lists.
A manifesto-style section reinforces the idea that there may be countless ways to machine a part, but only the right combination of engineering decisions creates the best commercial result.
This ensures the content sells Numachine’s thinking, not just its equipment.
A Bespoke Industrial Design System
The visual identity was designed from the ground up rather than adapted from an existing theme.
Every element was intended to feel connected to precision engineering and manufacturing.
The design system includes:
- a bespoke “Swarf” graphic motif inspired by machined metal shavings
- chamfered panels referencing machined edges
- a three-part typography system using display, monospaced and body typefaces
- high-contrast orange and near-black colourways
- restrained motion and micro-interactions
- magnetic buttons and reveal-on-scroll effects
The result is a website that feels recognisably industrial without relying on generic stock imagery or predictable engineering templates.
The design reflects the precision, process and craft behind the business.
Headless WordPress Architecture
The platform uses WordPress as a headless CMS, allowing Numachine to retain a familiar and manageable content-editing experience.
Rather than WordPress rendering the public-facing website, structured content is delivered to a modern Next.js front end.
This approach provides:
- simple content management
- faster front-end performance
- greater control over technical SEO
- improved security
- cleaner code output
- greater scalability
WordPress remains the editorial platform, while Next.js manages the presentation, user experience and performance layer.
This reflects our approach to building connected digital platforms that balance easy content management with modern technical performance.
Content Architecture as an SEO Engine
The website was structured to create a connected authority network rather than a collection of isolated pages.
Content is organised across:
- services
- capabilities
- industries
- case studies
- technical insights
These areas are deliberately interconnected.
For example:
- service pages link to relevant sectors
- sector pages link to applicable capabilities
- case studies provide proof
- insight content answers technical buyer questions
This creates a strong internal linking structure that helps both users and search engines understand the relationship between Numachine’s expertise, markets and results.
Some specialist landing pages can remain outside the primary navigation while still being accessible to search engines and relevant buyers.
This structure supports a wider SEO strategy for manufacturing companies.
Built for AI-Driven Search
The platform was designed for both traditional search engines and emerging answer-based search platforms.
The website includes structured data for:
- Organisation
- Services
- Articles
- FAQs
- Breadcrumbs
Visible FAQ content is supported by FAQPage schema, allowing search engines and AI assistants to understand and reuse clear, direct answers.
An llms.txt file also provides additional guidance for compatible AI crawlers and agentic browsers.
The content follows an answer-first structure wherever appropriate, improving the likelihood that platforms such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI experiences can identify and cite useful information from the site.
This extends the project beyond conventional SEO into Answer Engine Optimisation for manufacturing businesses.
RFQ Journey Designed Around Real Buyer Behaviour
For precision engineering companies, the most valuable enquiry often begins with a technical drawing.
The RFQ process was therefore designed around how buyers actually request quotes.
The custom enquiry journey allows users to:
- submit project details
- upload drawings and supporting files
- provide technical requirements
- give GDPR consent
- send information directly into HubSpot
Lead details are passed through the HubSpot Forms API, while drawings are handled through a dedicated secure API route.
Session attribution and consent-gated tracking provide a clearer view of where enquiries originate and how users interact with the platform before submitting an RFQ.
This transforms the website into a connected lead generation and CRM platform, rather than a passive brochure site.
Performance & Accessibility
The website was engineered to perform effectively across devices and connection speeds.
This is particularly important for users accessing technical information from mobile devices, factories or industrial environments where connectivity may be limited.
The platform delivers:
- Largest Contentful Paint of approximately 2.1 seconds
- zero cumulative layout shift
- a lean first-party JavaScript payload
- a Lighthouse SEO score of 100
- semantic page structure
- WCAG-minded accessibility
- AA colour contrast
- Progressive Web App and offline support
These improvements create a faster, more stable and more accessible experience for users while supporting stronger organic search performance.
HubSpot & Marketing Integration
HubSpot was integrated into the platform to support both lead generation and future marketing activity.
The system captures:
- RFQ submissions
- contact details
- source attribution
- consent
- relevant project information
This provides Numachine with a clearer route from website enquiry to sales follow-up while creating a foundation for reporting, nurturing and campaign activity.
It also supports a more connected relationship between marketing, sales and website performance.
