Case Study

Logo Redesign for Hereford Electrical Distributors

Logo Redesign for Hereford Electrical Distributors

Project Overview

Herefordshire Electrical Distributors required a bold, modern logo redesign that would give the business a stronger visual identity while still clearly communicating its place within the electrical supply industry. The brief called for a design that felt professional, memorable, and versatile enough to work across signage, workwear, vehicles, stationery, and digital use.

The project was developed across three key stages: Logo Drafts, Logo Drafts Rev A, and the final approved stage, Logo Drafts Rev B.

Stage One: Logo Drafts

The project began with a wide-ranging exploration of different visual directions. At this stage, the aim was to give the client a broad selection of possible routes rather than focusing too early on one fixed style.

The initial Logo Drafts included a mixture of concepts, from clean typographic marks and abbreviated “HED” designs to more graphic ideas using electrical symbols, lightning bolts, plugs, circuit-style details, and shield-like forms. Some designs leaned towards a corporate, minimal look, while others had a more energetic and industrial feel.

This first stage was important because it allowed the client to compare different approaches side by side. It helped establish what felt most appropriate for the brand: a logo that was bold, instantly readable, and clearly connected to electrical distribution.

From this first set of ideas, the client selected the concept featuring the full business name alongside a circular electrical bolt icon. This direction had the strongest balance of impact, clarity, and industry relevance.

Stage Two: Logo Drafts Rev A

Following the client’s feedback, the chosen concept was developed further in Logo Drafts Rev A.

At this stage, the design moved away from broad exploration and into refinement. The selected logo was tested in different colour combinations, including blue, red, orange, green, yellow, pink, black, and white variations. This helped show how the design could adapt to different applications while keeping the same core identity.

The chosen style used a bold, rounded display typeface with a heavy outline, giving the logo a strong and highly visible appearance. The layered outline treatment helped the lettering stand out, while the electrical bolt icon gave the design an immediate connection to the company’s industry.

The Rev A stage also explored how the icon and text worked together. The circular mark with the lightning bolt added movement and energy, while the full company name ensured the brand remained clear and recognisable.

Stage Three: Logo Drafts Rev B

The final stage, Logo Drafts Rev B, focused on polishing the selected design and presenting the strongest final options.

In this revision, the blue version was refined and shown in two final layouts. Both versions kept the same core visual language: bold blue lettering, black outlines, and a circular lightning bolt icon. The main difference was the placement and scale of the icon in relation to the text.

The final design feels confident, practical, and easy to recognise. The bright blue gives the logo a fresh and energetic feel, while the black outline adds strength and improves legibility. The lightning bolt symbol reinforces the electrical theme without overcomplicating the design.

By this stage, the logo had evolved from one of many initial ideas into a finished identity system with a clear visual direction.

Final Outcome

The completed logo gives Herefordshire Electrical Distributors a distinctive and memorable brand mark. It is bold enough for large-format use, such as vans, signs, and trade counters, but still simple enough to be used across smaller printed and digital materials.

The design successfully combines three key elements: the full company name for clarity, a strong outlined typographic style for impact, and an electrical bolt icon for instant industry recognition.

The process moved naturally from exploration to refinement to finalisation. Starting with a broad set of Logo Drafts, the client was able to choose the strongest concept, which was then developed through Logo Drafts Rev A and completed in Logo Drafts Rev B.

The result is a confident, energetic logo that reflects the company’s sector and gives Herefordshire Electrical Distributors a stronger, more recognisable visual identity.
