There was only one place we were going to be today…Mortimer Park
With so much riding on the outcome of today’s game, there was no other place we’d be as players, sponsors but most of all supporters of the club. With an inflatable obstacle course for the kids, a taster of what’s to come in the way of food at the Sundogs Festival, live music after the match by Shop Front Heroes and, of course, the match itself.
Almost perfect weather for a game of rugby and with what looked like a packed house clearly today meant as much to everybody there as it did the players and staff at Luctonians.
Lucs were the first rugby team that The DM Lab was able to be involved with.
We saw this as a huge privilege as we are avid fans of the club and the people involved with the club, both the staff and the players. It’s a brilliant club.
Lucs needed a bonus point win today to secure National 2 League status next season. A full 5 points against the league champions Sale FC. A tough ask but the players answered with spirit. Conceding several tries early in the first half, Lucs scored and converted 3 of the 4 tries they so desperately needed and they were inches away right at the death but it just wasn’t to be. So close. Mortimer Park was the noisiest we have ever experienced. Urging the boys over the whitewash for that season defining try.
Unfortunately, it ended 21 – 22. A massively respectable core for a team that was battling relegation against the league champions who won it with 2 games to spare, including ours.
It was pretty emotional as you can imagine. Seeing players break down as a result. Boys – you gave it your all. To us as 4th team players / fringe 3rd team you are absolute heroes. Take whatever you need to from this then put it out of your minds and focus on the future. We’ve already said it but we’re right behind you. We want the club to flourish off the pitch as much as we do on it.
We’re really proud to be a part of this club.
