Burger Day

As today is burger day, thought we’d share with you our burger recipe.

Spread Dijon mustard on each half of a wholegrain bun. Why mustard? A replacement for butter – one teaspoon of Dijon mustard will net you 5 calories as well as giving the burger a kick.

Add rinsed and drained sauerkraut (this reduces the sodium). Why is it good for me? (From The Guardian) – cabbage contains natural isothiocyanate compounds (such as sulforaphane), which have cancer-fighting properties. And as long as you choose the unpasteurised sort, sauerkraut is teeming with beneficial lactobacillus bacteria – more than is in live yoghurt – which increase the healthy flora in the intestinal tract. This helps the immune system fight infection, and aids digestion, hence sauerkraut’s venerable reputation as a remedy for upset stomach and constipation.

Quorn turkey, why? Low in saturated fat and high in protein.

A piece of reduced-fat Swiss cheese melted on. Why Swiss cheese? Swiss cheese have nutrients that are good for your bones, your eyesight and your immune system. More here.

Toast the bun and there you have it!
