Great Digital Marketer Or A Good Digital Marketer?

Question – what makes a good digital marketer a great digital marketer

The difference between a good digital marketer and a great digital marketer is…

A couple of hours! That’s our take on Search Engine Journal‘s latest poll on Twitter anyway!

SEJ's Poll Results & What Makes A Good Digital Marketer A Great Digital Marketer

It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be – Paul Arden

To be the best at something, you have to dedicate more time and energy into it than anything else. Like an elite athlete, training, focusing and working toward being the best at what they do. Although far from elite athletes, the same can be said for us as a digital marketer, striving to be a great digital marketer.

However brilliant marketing is not a 9am-5pm job. We have to be ready for anything – at any time!

Search Engine Journal recently held an interesting poll. A question for all search and digital marketing pros:

How many hours do you typically work per day?

This was interesting and the results were also interesting. 8 hours a day, everyday. I wish we could do that! The problem we have is to be the best often means jumping on articles, trends or events as they happen. Unfortunately these are rarely scheduled within office hours. Our office hours are:

10am-5pm Mondays

9:30am-5pm Tuesday – Thursday

9:30am – 4:30pm Friday

However, our working hours easily exceed these. It’s not a chore, or difficult to switch off. We love what we do and we can’t stop doing it! Wouldn’t go as far as saying if we’re awake, we’re working, but 4+ hours outside of office hours is realistic, so we voted 9-12 hours every day. Keeping your finger on the pulse is important. Reacting immediately is important. When marketing, be it for ourselves or clients – there is always something to be done or needs doing.

The unpredictable but continuous nature is what excites us.

You can prepare for upcoming events and jump on the marketing trends. You can’t prepare for unexpected events that we can involve ourselves or our clients in. We have to be ready to act – and we are! Not workaholics, just dedicated to the cause!

Does this non-stop work affect our lives outside of work?

Not really! We can do most thing s on our phones, especially if it involves social media. If you’ve got time to waste outside of work, why not waste it working?!
