Ledbury RFC’s Captain’s Lunch 2018

Ledbury RFC’s Captains Lunch 2018

The DM Lab had a pretty good couple of days. Finalists at the Herefordshire Business Awards and an invite to Ledbury RFCs Captain’s Lunch.

We’ve a vested interest in supporting all the clubs we are involved with. The clubs look after us well and we are honoured to be so gratefully received. None more so than a invite by club captain Dave Wargen to the Captain’s Lunch. Hearty chili and lasagne was on the menu, exactly what we needed after the Herefordshire Business Awards the night before!

The afternoon began with a brilliant speech by Dave. About the suffering and recognition of mental illness he himself experienced. Which is why the club have a partnership with Strong Young Minds. Strong Young Minds is a Big Lottery funded project designed to improve the mental health & wellbeing of young people in Herefordshire. The SYM Project is for young people (10 – 24 years) who are disenfranchised, distressed, unemployed, at risk of social isolation, poor achievement & ill health, due to poor mental health and wellbeing. They work with young people to address issues which can have an adverse effect on their mental health & wellbeing, such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self harm, bullying, cyberbullying, relationship breakdown, employability, low self esteem, body image & loss.

The Auction

Following this incredible speech, the club had an auction to raise money for Strong Young Minds (SYM). Up for grabs was some cider, a signed 2016 / 2017 Northampton Saint shirt, a team signed 2017 / 2018 Worcester Warriors shirt and an England shirt signed by Worcester Valkyries and England Hooker Lark Davies.

Any guesses what we won in the auction?!

We were also presented with one of the clubs warm up tops each, with our logo on the back. A token of the club’s appreciation which we gratefully received – thanks guys! We really enjoyed the afternoon. Seeing our logo dotted about the club and in the matchday programme gave us a real buzz.

The rugby was decent too, with the 2nd XV picking up a win and the 1st XV narrowly losing by 5 points after an enthralling match.

Thank you to everyone at the club for making us welcome, it was a great day!
