Pros & Cons of ‘Speculative’ Work

In a bid to secure some potentially huge work, we opted to develop a project without agreeing a cost or contract or indeed clients’ approval to go ahead with any work whatsoever. Instead we worked on the basis that the end product was something a potential client needed and therefore being able to generate a sale there and then. This method can be quite costly, to work on something that is not guaranteed to be paid for. This was a risk we were willing to take. Fortunately the client agreed and was really pleased with the end product. After a few tweaks, the contract was sold and the exercise proved to be fruitful!
