Another weekend gone, another game of rugby behind us.
Last Saturday we went up to Mortimer Park to get behind the boys.
Lucs are currently second from bottom, in the relegation zone. They have 2 games in hand over other teams because of postponed fixtured during one of the several winters we’ve experienced!
In order to avoid the drop, Lucs now need maximum points from both their remaining fixtures.
By maximum points we mean win the game with 4 or more tries to get the try bonus point. If you don’t follow rugby, it’s 4 points for a win and a bonus point if 4 or more tries are scored.
After their emphatic win over already relegated, bottom of the table Sheffield, there is still hope! This Saturday Lucs travel to 12th placed Leicester Lions. To keep any hope of remaining in National 2 North they’ll need to go out all guns blazing. They know what needs to be done. Anything less than 5 points this Saturday will unfortunately not be enough. They don’t need us to tell them that but we’re right behind them. Albeit from the comfort of UKFast’s hospitality box at Sale Sharks’ AJ Bell stadium. We’ll be keeping a close eye on their progress as we cheer on the Sharks in their bid to finish in the top 6 to qualify for European action next season.
Coincidently, if Lucs get the required 5 points, they face Sharks’ lower league neighbours Sale FC (already promoted last Saturday with a game to spare, beating Lucs’ opposition Leicester Lions 37-5) in their final game of the season. We’ll definitely be returning to Mortimer Park for that one.
Taking 10 points from both these games will enable Lucs to leapfrog Wharfedale, pushing them into the drop zone. Let’s hope we’re sitting pretty on the evening of the 12th of May.
