On Sunday July 19th the Lab Rats of Team DM Lab took part in another challenge – this time something different from running – we took part in the St Michael’s Hospice Wheelie Big Cycle 2015!
It’s great to support a local charity like St Michael’s Hospice by doing something we’re fairly new at but find it really enjoyable. It’s local as well so we didn’t need to be up too early to travel.
We arrived at the Livestock Market around 8:15am and the weather looked really bad. Grey, wet and cold. This brought back memories of My First Sportive in Brewood a few months earlier so it was dampening our spirits (excuse the pun!). As the 9:00am start time neared, the weather remained the same. Light rain, heavy rain but raining regardless. This would only makes things harder as I had already experienced! An hour or so later the rain stopped and later still the sun came out – and it was warm when it did appear. Drying up the route nicely we were able to average our target mile times of around 4 minutes which was a bonus! The sun really turned the event from damp and miserable to sunny and enjoyable. The weather was so pleasant that by the end of it we all caught the sun a bit – something that if you told us at 8:30am that morning would happen – we would never have believed you!
Here’s us at the start…
It was a great event, well sign posted, well marshaled and the scenery around Herefordshire was wonderful to see as we ventured 60 miles around the county – popping over the border into Wales for a few miles too. A great experience – we’ll be looking to tackle the 93 mile route next year in our efforts to keep pushing ourselves physically. We are after all office monkeys / Lab Rats!
